Why Is It Important?
Impact On Environment And Health
The transportation industry contributes the biggest share of polluting emissions
that cause global warming and climate change due to combustion engines that burn fossil-fuels. Especially in large cities the polluted air and smog cause tremendous health problems and reduction of life quality already. In most of the industrialized world, governments decided to put an end to fossil-fuels-driven cars within very few years, however, if dramatic measures will not be taken – we may well reach a point of no return when the global warming will escalate beyond control or repair.
Environment and Public Health
The damages costs of pollution from fossil-fuel vehicles are enormous. Studies show that annual cost of damages from transportation pollution in the OECD amount to 1.7 Trillion dollars. These costs include medical expenses of treatment for many illnesses that evolve from respiration of polluted air in the cities, and restoration expenses for buildings, infrastructure and vegetation that are damaged by soot and acidic atmosphere.
Such costs will be reduced dramatically when most of the transportation will become electric. It will reduce the budgets of the municipalities, reduce the budget of the public health and health-insurances, and generally improve the standard of living. The sooner- the better!
